Anwar Ali’s International Career

Anwar Ali played 22 One Day Internationals for Pakistan, scoring 321 runs and taking 18 wickets.

In ODI cricket, he recorded a highest score of 43 runs and provided Pakistan with an additional bowling option. His right-arm medium-fast bowling allowed him to operate as a support bowler, while his batting ability added depth to the team’s lineup. His ODI career included appearances against several international sides, and he remained part of Pakistan’s limited-overs setup during an important period for the national team.

Anwar also represented Pakistan in 16 T20 Internationals, scoring 109 runs and taking 10 wickets. His highest T20I score was 46, while his ability to bowl at different stages of an innings made him a useful limited-overs player.

Anwar made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in October 2008 and later played his final T20I against Bangladesh in March 2016. His ODI debut came against South Africa in November 2013, while his final ODI appearance was against New Zealand in January 2016.

Across a long domestic career, he regularly contributed as an all-rounder and accumulated a substantial number of wickets.

In List A cricket, Anwar has played 164 matches, scoring 2,606 runs and taking 190 wickets. These numbers underline the experience he brings into his coaching role. Having played a large number of matches across different formats, Anwar has experienced different playing conditions, team environments and tactical situations.

Across his T20 career, he has made 196 appearances, scoring 1,607 runs. His T20 batting strike rate has been above 140, reflecting his ability to score quickly when required. He has also taken 102 wickets in T20 cricket, giving him significant experience in the format that will be central to his new coaching role with the Chicago Kingsmen.

During his playing career, Anwar was involved in various domestic and franchise competitions, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Lanka Premier League (LPL). His exposure to franchise cricket is particularly relevant as he begins working as a coach in Minor League Cricket.

Chicago Kingsmen Coaching Role & Focus on T20 Cricket

Anwar Ali’s appointment as head coach of the Chicago Kingsmen represents a new chapter in his professional cricket career. The move takes him from being a player on the field to a leadership role where he will be responsible for helping prepare and guide players throughout the season.

As a former international cricketer, Anwar has first-hand experience of the demands placed on players at the highest level. His understanding of bowling plans, batting situations, match preparation and pressure moments can now be used from a coaching perspective. His experience as a fast-medium bowler is also particularly relevant to a T20 team, where bowling at the death can have a major impact on the result of a match.

A New Chapter in Anwar Ali’s Career

Anwar Ali’s journey from Pakistan Under-19 cricket to international cricket, domestic cricket and franchise competitions has covered many stages of the game. He began attracting attention as a young fast-bowling all-rounder and eventually represented Pakistan in both ODIs and T20Is. Along the way, he built an extensive domestic record and gained experience in different T20 competitions.

Now, his appointment with the Chicago Kingsmen gives him an opportunity to begin building a coaching career in the United States. The 2026 Minor League Cricket season will therefore be an important new phase for Anwar Ali. Instead of contributing to his team primarily with bat and ball, he will be working from the dugout and helping players prepare for the demands of professional T20 cricket.
